Google Sheets with migraine: dark theme, zoom and less glare
Updated 2026-11-02
Quick answerGoogle Sheets has a dark theme in its Android and iPhone apps (Menu, Settings, Choose theme, Dark), but not on the web. A bright white grid is a lot of light and fine lines, so on a computer zoom in, dim the page relative to the room and consider a dark filter.
Dark theme in the Sheets app
- Open Google Sheets on your phone or tablet.
- Tap Menu, then Settings.
- Tap Choose theme and select Dark.
On a computer
- Zoom with Ctrl/Cmd and + to make cells and text larger.
- Turn on Migraine Mode for dimming and smart dark mode on the grid.
Good to know
- Dense grids of thin lines are a striped pattern; patterns with high contrast are more uncomfortable for people with migraine (Wilkins 1984).
- Migraine Mode adds what the site lacks: dimming, a soft-green tint, smart dark mode, frozen GIFs and blocked autoplay, all with one switch.

Not a medical device and not medical advice. Migraine Mode is a screen-comfort tool: it does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent migraine or any other condition, and it does not replace a doctor. Its settings are based on studies of light, colour, flicker, patterns and motion; the extension itself has not been clinically tested. When to see a doctor.
