Facebook on a migraine day: autoplay off and dark mode
Updated 2026-11-02
Quick answerFacebook lets you turn off autoplay in its media settings and turn autoplay animations on or off, as described in its Help Center. Dark mode is under your profile picture, Display & accessibility. With autoplay and animations off, the feed stops moving and flashing while you scroll through it.
Dark mode
- Click your profile picture at the top right.
- Select Display & accessibility.
- Set Dark mode to On or Automatic.
Autoplay
- Open Settings & privacy > Settings.
- Find the media or video settings and set autoplay to off.
- Turn off autoplay animations if offered.
Good to know
- Menu names change often; the Facebook Help Center page in Sources has the current path.
- Migraine Mode adds what the site lacks: dimming, a soft-green tint, smart dark mode, frozen GIFs and blocked autoplay, all with one switch.
FAQ
Does turning off autoplay stop all videos?
It stops automatic playback in the feed; a browser extension can also block autoplay elsewhere.
Is Facebook dark mode per device?
Settings can differ between the app and the website, so check both.

Not a medical device and not medical advice. Migraine Mode is a screen-comfort tool: it does not diagnose, treat, cure or prevent migraine or any other condition, and it does not replace a doctor. Its settings are based on studies of light, colour, flicker, patterns and motion; the extension itself has not been clinically tested. When to see a doctor.
